Civil Trial Buckle V Bloggs and Co
20 students from Mark Rutherford and Redborne Upper Schools took part in a mock trial at Bedford County Court. Students took the roles of barristers, solicitors, claimant, defendant, witnesses and jurors to hear the case. Two weeks earlier they underwent an intensive preparation session with Sue Cornish, Civil Claims Manager and a briefing from Jan Ewing, Solicitor
The actual proceedings were overseen by District Judge Ayres. This panel of Jurors came to the same conclusion as the Judge with the evidence presented on the day – the company were guilty and should review their health and safety policy and some compensation may be payable to the claimant.
What did the tutors and students say “ I think it was good. I enjoyed it as it was something “different” and it has inspired me to do something like that.”
“Many thanks again for an excellent experience, my students very much enjoyed it”
