This is the second year the Young Apprenticeship in Construction and the Built Environment has been delivered. 28 students are nearing the completion of their 50 day w ork related learning programme. Following their successful 'Build a Bungalow' programme in July, students embarked on a variety of work experience placements building on knowledge and learning from the work related learning visits and activities. Their second year started with a visit to the Ecotech Centre in Swaffam climbing the only wind turbine in England that can be accessed by internal stairs leading to a viewing platform at the top. Most of the students have passed their CSCS test and 'work ready awards'. They will all receive their work related learning portfolios in January which will provide evidence for future employers of their outstanding achievements during their 2-year Apprenticeship.
The new group of 44 Construction Apprentices started their year with an Enterprise activity finding out what it would be like to start up their own company. This was followed by a visit to the new Wixam development being built on the A6 to gain an understanding of design and build. This group also visited the Ecotech Centre. Students started 2009 by participating in a Formula 1 race event where they designed and created their own race car that was fired along a specially designed track. These 44 students will soon be preparing for the 'Build a Bungalow' project in July and work experience.
