Folding paper planes is a fun activity that most children will do at some stage.  This activity gives them the chance to learn as they fold planes of different design, seeing which ones fly the furthest, reach the greatest heights or simply plummet to earth.

The planes are launched from electric launchers which send them off at much higher speeds than can be achieved by just throwing.  They learn about basic aerodynamics and the theory of flight as well as improving their accuracy skills as they fold their planes.

This is a great short workshop to offer as part of a science or technology day and generally lasts for about half an hour.

Space needed - school hall or gym.
