KS 3 Workshop

Ship Shape is a new mathematics workshop to help studetns understand angles and the reason for studying them.  They will also learn basic surveying techniques. 

The students will construct a large 2D shape of a sailing ship on the school field or playground.  They work in teams and each team need to work together to create the right shape.

The students will learn to use simple theodolites to measure the angles necessary to lay out the shape.  The benefits of this workshop go beyond the main aim to learn the relevance of angles.  Reference will be made to how these techniques are used in the construction industry and other working settings.
