STEM Primary Engineer
Age Group:

Primary Engineer has worked nationally developing sequential courses for teachers to build confidence in delivering design technology drawing out mathematics and science. It has been said that the projects are teaching STEM by Stealth. Pupils engage naturally in practical design and make activities using science, mathematics, ICT and literacy to test their results before refining and evaluating. Some of these link into national challenges.

Our links to the General Teaching Council's Teacher Learning Academy enables teachers to have their work professionally recognised.

A realistic understanding of Engineering today is essential hence the development of The Primary Leaders Award for STEM offering just that - pupils are encourage to interview a Scientist, Technologist, Engineer and/or Mathematician about their life and work - acting then as ambassadors for the school with STEM projects.

The foundations of Primary Engineer can be traced back to the 1980's when David Jinks delivered award winning design and technology inset courses for teachers. His founding work has been developed over the years by primary and secondary teachers. Resulting in the creation of courses that not only link secondary teachers to their feeder primary schools, but give teachers key skills and confidence. Teachers from secondary schools act as subject specialist offering local support, the link between the primary and secondary aids transition for children as they move from one to the other. A comprehensive range of resources are provided for the teacher and for the classroom and a national challenge activity enables the pupils and teachers to celebrate their work.
